Parent Readers
We have a well established programme in which parents volunteer a small amount of time to read with children from Reception to Year 6. This is an enjoyable experience for both the adult and the child - and it frees up teachers and other adults in school to work with children on other things. We are always ready to welcome a parent (or grandparent) with an hour to spare who would like to support the children in this way.
Training is offered and support is given by our Literacy lead and the programme is organised by two parents, who will also support volunteers. The training includes an introduction to the Phonics programme used in school, 'Read, Write, Inc.' A DBS is required.
DBS forms are available from Mrs Stephan in the school office, and application form guidance can be downloaded here.
The DBS application is free for volunteers (normally standard checks cost £26 and enhanced checks cost £44), and takes between 2-4 weeks to process.
